ENQA Board
The Board is the executive body of ENQA. It is elected by the General
Assembly and convenes at least quarterly to discuss current
issues. The President of the Board acts also as the President of the whole
association. The ENQA Board has three standing committees: the Review Committee, the Membership Committee and the Finance Committee.
The main responsibilities of the Board are to:
- prepare and supervise a yearly work plan, to be discussed and approved
by the General Assembly;
- prepare workshops and other activities as defined in the
work plan;
- ensure that any specific mandate determined by the General Assembly is executed;
- decide on the admission of new members or the exclusion
of members in breach of the Regulations (pdf);
- make recommendations to the General Assembly on any
modification of the Regulations;
- appoint the Secretary General;
- instruct and evaluate the work of the Secretary General in charge of the Secretariat, and the work of the Secretariat of ENQA;
- oversee the financial arrangements of ENQA
and provide for the auditing of the accounts;
- take such other action as it may deem necessary in the interests of ENQA.

Dr. Achim Hopbach is the newly elected President of the ENQA Board, serving as President since September 2009; Achim is also part of the ENQA Finance Committee,
and is an alternate member of the Membership Committee.
Achim is the Managing Director of GAC (German Accreditation Council) which operates in Bonn, Germany.

Dr. Tibor Szanto is currently one of the two Vice-Presidents of the ENQA Board, serving since 2004; he is part of the ENQA Finance Committee, Membership Committee and is an alternate member on the Review Committee.
Tibor is the Secretary General of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (HAC) which operates in Budapest, Hungary.

Ms. Fiona Crozier is currently one of the two Vice-Presidents of the ENQA Board, serving since 2008; she also serves on the ENQA Review Committee.
Fiona is an Assistant Director, Development and Enhancement Group of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA, UK) which operates in
Gloucester, United Kingdom.

Prof Dr. Dittrich, as a member of the ENQA Board since 2009, is the chairman of the Netherlands Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO),
which operates in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Mr. Josep Grifoll, as a member of the ENQA Board since 2008, serves on the ENQA Review Committee.
Josep is currently Technical Director of the Quality Assessment Area at the Agency for Quality Assurance
in the Catalan University System (AQU) which operates in Barcelona, Spain.

Ms. Tine Holm (on maternity leave until 15 June 2010) as a member of the ENQA Board since 2006.
Tine is the Director of Projects of the Danish Evaluation Institute (EVA), which operates in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Dr. Helka Kekäläinen, as a member of the ENQA Board since 2009 (after a one year co-option), serves on the ENQA Review Committee.
Helka is the Secretary General of the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC), which operates in Helsinki, Finland.

Mr. Llavori, as a member of the ENQA Board since 2009, is the Head of the Unit for International Relations of the National Agency for Quality Assessment
and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA) which operates in Madrid, Spain.

|
Dr. Kurt Sohm, as a member of the ENQA Board since 2005, serves on the ENQA Review Committee and the Membership Committee.
Kurt is the Managing Director of Fachhochschulrat (FHR) which is the accreditation body for Universities of Applied Sciences, operating in Vienna, Austria.

Prof Dr. Damian, as a co-opted member of the ENQA Board since 2009, is the director of the Department of Quality Evaluation at the Romanian
Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS), which operates in Bucharest, Romania.

Dr. Walsh, as a co-opted member of the ENQA Board since 2009, is the Chief Executive of the Irish Universities Quality Board (IUQB), which operates in
Dublin, Ireland.

Committees of the ENQA Board
The ENQA Board has three standing committees: the Review Committee, the Membership Committee and the Finance Committee. These committees deal respectively with external reviews of member agencies, membership and financial issues. They assist the Board with the decision-making process by providing recommendations on the aforementioned areas.
