Enhancing Quality of Technology-Enhanced Learning at Jordanian Universities – EQTeL

ENQA was involved as a partner in the Tempus project “Enhancing Quality of Technology-Enhanced Learning at Jordanian Universities” (EQTeL) coordinated by Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Jordan. The project received funding under the Lifelong Learning Tempus Structural Measures sub-programme.

PARTNERSHIP

The partnership of the project involved Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), Jordan, as the coordinator, ENQA, AQU-Catalunya as QA agency, 7 universities, the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Jordanian Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Project aim

EQTeL aimed to improve the quality and relevance of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) at Jordanian higher education institutions in order to decrease the level of unemployment of young people and to enable the country’s easier inclusion into European Higher Education Area. The main project objective was to improve, develop and implement accreditation standards, guidelines and procedures for quality assurance of TEL courses and study programs at a national level. The new standards would assimilate the quality of TEL courses offered by higher education institutions in Jordan, and would consequently be incorporated into existing legal acts and regulatory documents at both institutional and national levels.

Target groups

Project’s main target group was the Jordanian higher education institution staff, students but also the policy makers.

Specific objectives

In order to achieve its overall aim, the project had the following specific objectives:

• improve, develop and implement accreditation standards, guidelines and procedures for quality assurance of TEL study programs according to EU practices at Jordanian universities;
• establish a framework for improving TEL quality assurance and methodology on institutional level;
• provide training for relevant members of higher education and public authorities responsible for accreditation and evaluation of TEL programmes.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

The project foresaw to have the following main outcomes:

• Report on the baseline for a Jordanian TEL Quality Assurance Framework
• Report on the international TEL State of Art
• Recommendations/basic guidelines for TEL Quality Assurance Framework in Jordan
• Development of 3 pilot TEL courses
• Report on the results of the pilot TEL courses
• Development of TEL virtual platform
• Delivery, reporting 3 Pilots TEL/eLearning methodology
• QA manual for equivalence of degrees and recognition of institutions
• Development of capacity building programmes for Jordanian HEIs
• Reports on the trainings

PROJECT EVENTS

The following events were foreseen to take place during the project:

• 3 pilot TEL courses
• Training of the Universities Recognition and Certificates Equivalency (URCE) and the Higher Committee of Certificates Equivalency (HCCE) members in EU
• Development of international training for HEAC
• Dissemination events
