6th Annual ENQA General Assembly, 28-29 September 2009, Barcelona, Spain (13. Oct. 2009)

The Sixth Annual ENQA General Assembly was hosted by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU), and took place on 28-29 September, 2009 in Barcelona, Spain.

For the first time in ENQA GA history, the 2009 GA had a forum day on the first day of the Assembly where European developments in Quality Assurance and the role of ENQA were discussed, as well as ENQA's implementation plan of priorities for 2010 and beyond.

The second day of the GA was dedicated to Association issues and resolves on courses of action.

The GA addressed and approved the President's report and the Secretary General's report. The GA decided on postponing, to the GA of 2010, the decision on the location of the ENQA Secretariat.The GA unanimously approved the revised ENQA regulations that were presented. The budget plan, work plan and membership fees were approved. The endorsement of admission of new and reconfirmed ENQA members, as well as new ENQA associates and affiliates, was unanimously agreed upon.

Achim Hopbach, Managing Director of the German Accreditation Council (GAC) was elected as the new President of ENQA. Tibor Szanto, Secretary General of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee was re-elected Vice-President of ENQA and Fiona Crozier, Assistant Director, Development and Enhancement Group of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA, UK) was newly elected as Vice-President of ENQA.

Karl Dittrich, chairman of the Netherlands Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO) and Helka Kekäläinen, Secretary General of the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC) were elected to the Board. A further vote was then cast to decide the final candidate to be elected to the Board. Raffael Llavori, Head of the Unit for International Relations of the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA) was elected to the Board for a three year term. Additionally, Padraig Walsh, Chief Executive of the Irish Universities Quality Board (IUQB) and Radu Damian, director of the Department of Quality Evaluation at the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) were offered positions as co-opted members of the ENQA Board. Finally, FINHEEC offered to host the 2010 ENQA General Assembly in Helsinki, Finland. It was decided that the 2010 GA would take place in Helsinki, Finland on 23-24 September, 2010.
