ECOO • European Council of Optometry and Optics

The European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) represents the interests of optometrists and opticians across Europe. Its members are national professional associations from 27 countries, collectively representing over 200,000 professionals. ECOO works to promote eye health across borders and to harmonise clinical and educational standards in optometry and optics. Central to this mission are the European Diploma in Optometry and the Qualification in Optics, which define common benchmarks for professional competence and mobility. ECOO has set up an accreditation agency to lead on this work by assuring the quality of educational programmes against these standards, fostering consistency and excellence in optometric and optical education across Europe. Through its accreditation work, ECOO is committed to advancing high-quality education and professional practice, ensuring that optometrists and opticians deliver safe, effective and accessible eye care to improve vision and eye health across Europe.
