ENQA organised the event in cooperation with the German Accreditation Council.

The relation between programme-oriented and institutional-oriented approaches to quality assurance has become increasingly important, due to at least two reasons:

  1. The Bologna Process and the European Standards Guidelines. The Bologna Process focuses much on programme related issues of higher education, whereas the notion of quality assurance has developed in a slightly different way. After having worked for a few years with the ESG, not only the importance of quality assurance in the Bologna process has changed but also its notion, which affects to a certain extent the national approaches to quality assurance.
  2. Significant changes of external QA are taking place in some European countries. To a large extend those changes are related to programme and institutional approaches.

The aim of this workshop was to share experience of linking programme-oriented approaches to institutional quality assurance and to present different paths to a combined approach.

The workshop was addressed to practitioners of ENQA members and experts in quality assurance.
