Context and expected outcomes:

This ENQA workshop was an outcome of the ENQA Working Group on Staff Development, which has worked since 2012 to identify common values and characteristics of professionalism in quality assurance; to build a mentoring scheme for heads of QA agencies; to analyse the key competencies of QA (reviews) staff; and to collect good practice in effective induction of new staff.

The workshop shared information and good practice collected by the ENQA Staff Development Working Group in 2012-2015 in the listed areas, and it provided an opportunity to the agencies to discuss, exchange and learn about effective staff recruitment, induction and training practices that may be able to address the specific needs and challenges faced by QA agencies in this area.

In particular, the event was expected to:

  1. Achieve a shared understanding amongst agencies of the essential competencies of QA
    professionals
  2. Share effective practices amongst agencies on assessment and development of competencies
  3. Generate ideas for future staff development activity

All sessions were designed as group work sessions with a high degree of interactivity and participation by all attendees.

Target groups:

The event was targeted to all ENQA members and affiliates, and in particular to those individuals who deal with staff recruitment, training, and competence profiling within the agency.

The event was hosted by the United Kingdom’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
