European Forum for Quality Assurance – Embedding quality culture in higher education

23 November 2006-25 November 2006 00:00

The first European Forum for Quality Assurance, funded by the Socrates Programme and co-organised by ENQA, ESIB, EUA and EURASHE, provided an opportunity for the QA and HE communities and stakeholders to discuss internal quality processes in the context of current higher education trends and policy developments. The Forum was timed to follow immediately the Bologna Promoter seminar on QA to enable Bologna Promoters to attend both events if they so wished.

Goals and Objectives of the Forum
The major goal of the Forum was to develop a shared understanding of ways to develop further a European dimension for quality assurance. Specifically, the objectives were:

  • To establish a European forum for dialogue between internal and external QA actors (universities, students and QA agencies) in order to reach consensus on how internal and external QA developments must adapt to the changing HE landscape;
  • To promote a sound approach to QA by encouraging internal quality developments in HEIs and an appropriate balance between the implementation of the required tools to assure quality and the need to foster creativity in research and education;
  • To foster research focused on QA.
