AQUIB is an ENQA Affiliate.
The Agency for the Quality of the University in the Balearic Islands (AQUIB) was created in the legal form of a consortium by means of an Agreement of the Governing Council of 13 December 2002, and the legislative recognition required by the LOU was given in Law 2/2003 of 20 March. From these dates, the Agency began to take the first steps in the direction of supporting quality as a guarantee of continuous improvement of the University of the Balearic Islands.
Gradually, the programmes that the state and regional regulations have attributed to the university quality agencies have been consolidated: institutional evaluation – of degrees, services and centres attached to the UIB – the assessment of the salary complements of the University’s teaching and research staff, and the evaluation prior to the hiring of teaching staff in the contractual figures provided for in the LOU.
The criteria on which the Agency is based in all the activities it carries out are those of transparency, autonomy, independence and impartiality in the procedures, assessment criteria and, especially, in the decisions that affect the evaluation processes, which are taken through the collaboration of experts from outside the university system of the Balearic Islands.
