More than 20 ENQA members were represented at the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) Ministerial Conference held in Tirana (Albania) on 28-30 May 2024. The main result of the conference was the approval of the Tirana Communiqué, which includes an invitation to the authors of the Standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) — among which ENQA — to propose a revised version by 2026.
The speech delivered by ENQA President, Douglas Blackstock, on 29 May 2024 highlighted that “quality assurance needs to enable and facilitate the adaptation of our higher education systems, and underpin recognition and mobility,” insisting on the need for flexible and responsive quality assurance that keeps student interests at its heart. In this sense, the upcoming revision of the ESG will need to bring to life quality enhancement, building trust in institutions and quality assurance agencies, and protecting the interests of students. The speech is now available on ENQA’s website.
