Dear ENQA members,
I am pleased to invite you to nominate candidates to fill upcoming open positions on the ENQA Board. Our rotation system means that the terms of two current Board members will come to an end in April 2021. At the same time, my own mandate as President will end and, having served two full terms on the Board, I will be stepping down.
These terms were originally due to end in October 2020; however, ENQA members agreed to extend them and postpone the elections until April due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The terms of the three new members will run until October 2023 in order to keep the current rotation system in place.
The full call for candidates, detailing the requirements and nomination process, is available below. The deadline for nominations is 26 February 2021. The elections will take place at the General Assembly meeting on 22 April 2021.
Contributing to ENQA’s development as a Board member and now as President has been an immensely rewarding experience, though not without its challenges – not least this year. ENQA’s strengths are built on the people that drive its work and the engagement of its members. I would therefore encourage representatives of member agencies to consider playing an active role in the work of the Association by standing for election to the Board. I particularly encourage nominations that will support the geographic and gender balance of the Board. To facilitate this, the list of continuing Board members is included in the call document.

Update 6 January 2021: The ENQA Secretariat has been informed that Anne Flierman, ENQA’s Treasurer and a current Board member, will leave his position at NVAO in April 2021 and will thus also step down from ENQA’s Board at that time. Therefore, there will be an additional vacancy on the Board, meaning a total of four candidates will be elected. As per the ENQA statutes, the candidate elected with the fewest votes will be assigned to serve the remainder of Anne’s term – until October 2021. After that term is up, the candidate would still be eligible to stand for a further two full terms on the Board. All other elected candidates will serve a regular term of three years, renewable once.
