SKVC prepares for evaluation and accreditation of study fields in Lithuania

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Lithuania approved the new Regulations for External Evaluation and Accreditation of Studies, Evaluation Fields, and Indicators on 17 July 2019. The core change of this new order is the transition from single study programme evaluation and accreditation procedure to evaluation and accreditation of study field. The approved new model will include application of threshold indicators, yearly monitoring of studies and it will give more attention to follow-up activities. The new model is expected to have a more systematic view of all studies in Lithuania.

The new order will be applied to evaluation and accreditation of the first and second cycle as well as professional studies. According to the new order, the external study field evaluation and accreditation will have to be performed at least once in seven years. This will be done by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC) or any other quality assurance agency listed in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR). The accreditation decision will be taken separately for each HEI according to the study field and cycle. The process of study field evaluations will start in the second half of 2020.

SKVC has prepared a methodology for the external study field evaluation and a methodology for new study programme evaluation as well as an evaluation schedule. Currently, the methodologies are being discussed with various stakeholder groups including the Ministry, HEIs, students’ unions and representatives of labour market.
