UN launches a new advocacy initiative on education and lifelong learning

The Permanent Missions of Argentina, the Czech Republic, Japan, Kenya and Norway to the United Nations (UN) alongside 25 countries have established a new initiative called the Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning, which will strive to advocate the centrality of education for reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.

In order to enhance advocacy and increase outreach for the global commitments on education, the Group will organise high-level and expert-level meetings, information sessions, and side events during key international platforms. This year presents a unique opportunity to highlight the key role of education for peace and development at the United Nations, as the High-level Political Forum will review the progress on achievement of the goal on education on an international scale.
